Poultry Group Drops Ads Mentioning Oklahoma Official
This article was published on Monday, September 25, 2006 6:45 PM CDT in News, By THE MORNING NEWS : A poultry company group will suspend controversial advertisements that refer to the Oklahoma attorney general.
The advertisements do not mention Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson by name, but Edmondson and other Oklahoma officials said the advertisements could be construed as anti-Edmondson campaigning during an election year.
Representatives for the Poultry Council said in a news release Monday that they will suspend the advertisements that refer to the state attorney general until after the November elections to avoid the "appearance of impropriety."
"Given the current discussion regarding the appropriateness of our advertising that references the attorney general, we have decided to ensure that there is no cause for speculation about our purpose," said Janet Wilkerson, a spokeswoman for the council.
"Our message, from the beginning of our public education program, has been clear: The poultry industry is responsible in how we operate our businesses," Wilkerson said in the release.
Advertisements that do not mention the attorney general will continue to run through the election, Wilkerson said.
